FACULTY OF MEDICINE AND HEALTH SCIENCES: WEBSITE REDESIGN

One of the projects that I worked on at Macquarie University is the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences website redesign. It was essential that I follow a Human Centred Design (HCD) approach (Discovery, Definition, Ideate, Prototype, Test and Iterate) to ensure that my design-thinking process and solutions are truly centred on the main user groups.

In the discovery and definition phase, I conducted a requirements workshop with the main Faculty stakeholders to determine the user groups and the most common user journeys through various workshop activities such as a cluster and competitor analysis, while also looking at website analytics and user/business goals to inform possible page structures and design. In the ideation and prototyping phase, I created two sets of wireframes using Sketch (An A and B version) to depict what the Faculty landing page could look like based on the workshop findings and additional research.

The Process

Human Centred Design (HCD) approach (Discovery, Definition, Ideate, Prototype, Test and Iterate) to ensure that everyone had a common goal centred around the user groups, that is to provide an effective, relevant and useful information that is easy to find in the new website.

End Result and Conclusion

Successively, I presented the recommended design, based on the testing, to the executive members of the Faculty which was received really well and was approved during the presentation without any drawbacks. I truly believe that it was the evidence based approach along with including and educating the stakeholders with the HCD methodology early in the process that provided the foundation for a successful result.
